LEARNING JOURNALAll children will have a learing journal, which can be viewed by parents at any time. The record of achievement will begin with a care plan completed by the parents and we also ask that you send in some family photos so that the file is familiar and personal to your child and this also makes a nice starting point. This folder will build over time with samples of work, photos, achievement certificates and anything else your child wishes to place within it. It is hoped that it will make a lovely keepsake of their time at nursery.CURRICULUMAll children at the nursery follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework from birth to 5 years. The key person will observe children and these will be recorded within their individual learning journal. The key person will refer to a theme / commitment at the end of the observation. If you would like further reading of the (EYFS) there are full packs and a CD Rom available to borrow. Children have access daily to all areas of play and choose freely the resources to enhance each area, so they may facilitate and develop their individual learing. Staff also enhance the areas according to themes and areas of interest. Resources are changed and enhanced on a weekly basis by staff to further develop children's learning and interaction and are sometimes themed according to topics and areas of interest displayed by the children. Staff act as facilitators and move around the areas to build upon and extend what children alredy know. Baby room staff incorperate individual care plans and routines so that they flow freely with the individual child. Activities are planned individually for the children and for the group. Copies of these can be found on the parent information board. Initials are used instead of names to preserve confidentiality. Children's learning and development is supported in all classrooms by offering 10 areas of continuous provision play. These are as follows: Water Play , Sand Play , Book/Reflective Area , Malleable Area , Construction Area , Small World , Role Play Area , Mark Making/ Writing Area , Workshop Area , Jigsaw Area , ICT. |
